Although always quite important, the key to a contemporary factory is no longer just about the production efficiency but also about how to create an environment that can stimulate interactions between its users. A communicative work space helps a company to generates good ideas and stay innovative.
On the one hand, the Lufthansa Technik Werkstatt design is efficient. The building is divided into two parts: larger, double height open spaces to the West and smaller, single height workshops and production offices to the East. The main logistic axis ties the building together on the North-South direction. This arrangement ensures the building's long term flexibility and optimizes its logistic workflow.
On the other hand, the space is communicative. The design introduces stripes of communication zones between the production areas. The linear "meeting points" arrangement let users have easy access to the discussion areas, and can easily be joined by the fellow colleagues.
